Ann Marie Guilmette thoughts on WARM
I always want to empower women, through my actions, contributions, and support, to achieve healing and recovery. My personal and family experiences demonstrate that addiction issues have the potential to destroy lives. Many of you have heard or know my story:
"My father deserted our family when I was seven years of age. He was a gambler. He lost control of his life and he abandoned us. His gambling cost our family more than just economic stability. He cost us our identity, our dignity, our community, and very nearly our lives. My family remains denigrated, disadvantaged, emotionally and socially challenged to this day."
As described, addiction issues (like problem gambling) can be harmful to women, children, and families. There is still so much to be done. My objective is to bring attention to WARM’s community-based interventions. By encouraging all individuals in a community to feel responsible for the safety and well being of women and families, we can make a difference. I want to contribute to the empowerment of women and families in recovery.
I continue to be amazed, amused, and impressed by the WARM staff, volunteers, Board, and membership who refuse to give up or surrender, and who continue to care and contribute to their communities.
Affectionately and appreciatively,
Ann Marie Guilmette, Ph.D.
